Product Website Must-Haves

If there’s one topic I get asked about again and again, it’s website must-haves. And I am here for it!

I love chatting about design, navigation and customer experience! I also love going to product-based business’ websites to see what’s working (and what’s not!). It’s always so interesting to identify trends, and this exercise inspires me to try new things on my own websites.

While there are so many strategies that can turn a so-so website into an amazing one, if you sell products, there are a few things that you absolutely must have on your website.

One is so old-school, it may surprise you!

A phone number. That’s right: 10 digits can truly make a difference between making a sale or not!

You may have already read about how excited I get when the business phone rings, especially during the holiday season– that ring is so full of possibilities! Last holiday season, Nancy happened to pick up the phone one afternoon. The customer on the other end explained she was calling because she was on our website right then, really liked a gift she saw and just had a quick question.

After answering the customer’s question in real-time, the customer simply said, “great! I’m ready to order 26 right now.”

Fifteen minutes later, Nancy had ironed out all the details of her order, sent a $3000+ invoice and added her 26 gifts to our production schedule.

It was that easy. All because we published our phone number on our website (it hasn’t always been there)!

You might think in 2021 the phone is dead, but let me tell you: it’s not!

We live in a world where people are used to (and even expect!) instant gratification. And picking up that good, old-fashioned phone enables customers to get the information they’re looking for right away… and maybe even purchase right away, too!

If you’re looking for a quick website upgrade, go ahead and add a phone number! It’s something I see missing from so many sites.
